|
Hippies, gold rushes and some of the most forward thinking techno geeks the world has ever seen have all graced the cosmopolitan city that is San Francisco, it has everything from earthquakes to dot-com gambles. Being the the official leading financial and cultural centres of Northern California and the Bay Area it has more than 30 International financial institutions based there helping to rank it 18th in the world’s most top producing cities and 12th place in the top twenty global financial centres. Not only can Fan Francisco be seen as one of the most important business development cities, but it is also one of the top tourist destinations in the world, ranking 35th out of the 100 most visited cities worldwide, and is renowned for its cool summers, fog, steep rolling hills, eclectic mix of architecture, and landmarks including the Golden Gate Bridge, cable cars, Alcatraz Island, its former prison, and its Chinatown. Culture and music play a large part of San Francisco culture with the Fillmore venue famously located in the Western Addition. It is the second incarnation of the historic venue that gained fame in the 1960s under concert promoter Bill Graham, housing the stage where now-famous musicians such as the Grateful Dead, Janis Joplin, Led Zeppelin and Jefferson Airplane first performed, fostering the San Francisco Sound. Beach Blanket Babylon is a zany musical revue and a civic institution that has performed to sold-out crowds in North Beach since 1974. |
